2018 Missions

Many teams and incident base staff have participated in the following missions. In our area there are other great teams that regularly participate in missions. What we have reported here is what we saw and in no way do we intend to take full credit for any of these missions.

Subject was located in good condition while team was en route.

Subject: Sick Backpacker


Backpacker became sick while on his trip and activated SPOT device. Team hiked in to wilderness and escorted him out on horseback.

Subject: SPOT Device Activation


SPOT device was activated. Situation was resolved while SAR personnel were en route.

Subject: Missing Dirt Biker


ATV and 4x4 resources were requested to continue search in Rio Puerco area for an overdue dirt biker. Subject was located deceased while team was en route.

Subject: Missing Male with Mental Health Issues


Subject was reported missing after several days, with no medication and poorly prepared. Subject was located alive and well by search teams.

Subject was reported overdue. Located alive and well by search teams in the morning.

Subject: Missing Male


Subject went out for a hike on his own to reach an inaccessible peak. Subject realized he could not reach it and walked out on his own while teams were deploying into the field.

Subject: Missing Male and Special Need Son


Both parties went out for a hike and were reported missing after being several hours late. Son was located alive and hypothermic in the water. Father was located the next morning by a dog team, deceased.

Subject: Missing Local Resident


Long-time local resident went on a regular short walk from his house and did not return. After four days of searching with no clues or find, the search was suspended. The subject was located deceased a month later.

Subject: Missing Hunter

A hunter separated from him group and never made it back to camp. Sleet, snow, rain and freezing temperatures overnight before resources could deploy to search. During the first few hours of the search, subject contacted a family member via cell phone, stating he was over 15 miles away on the side of a highway. Subject was picked up by family and returned to base.
