2016 Missions

Many teams and incident base staff have participated in the following missions. In our area there are other great teams that regularly participate in missions. What we have reported here is what we saw and in no way do we intend to take full credit for any of these missions.

Date: January 3, 2016
Location: Ski Apache
Subject: Two Out of Bounds Skiers

Two subjects were overdue from skiing at Ski Apache. Ski patrol located two sets of tracks heading out of bounds towards Three Rivers. Subjects located next day. They had skied out of bounds and been trapped by terrain. They built a snow shelter for the night.

Date: May 18, 2016
Location: Datil, NM
Subject: Missing Delivery Driver

Subject was making a deliver to a ranch outside Datil and did not arrive. Silver alert initiated due to age and medical condition of subject. Rain made most roads impassable. An emergency volunteer was able to access area and locate subject walking south on Forest Road 6. Subject had spent two days in vehicle due to weather and started walking once it cleared up.

Date: September 3, 2016
Location: Southern Manzano Mountains
Subject: Male and Female Hikers

Two hikers left from Kayser Trailhead to hike up to Manzano Peak. On the way down, they ended up on a different trail. Once realizing they were lost, called 911. Subjects were able to signal their location with their cell phone. Teams hiked up, made contact, and hiked them back down.

Date: October 6, 2016
Location: Sandia Crest
Subject: Despondent Male

Subject's motorcycle was located at Sandia Crest and a suicide note was found. Search efforts led to finding the subject deceased on a cliff below the Kiwanis Cabin.

Location: Bosque Farms, NM
Subject: Despondent Female

Subject had argument with parents and left house and claiming she had cut herself. Trail of blood led out of house. Subject located before SAR resources deployed.
