2017 Missions

Many teams and incident base staff have participated in the following missions. In our area there are other great teams that regularly participate in missions. What we have reported here is what we saw and in no way do we intend to take full credit for any of these missions.

Date: April 7, 2017
Location: York Ranch
Subject: Missing Male

Subject lived in the area part time and disappeared after a disagreement. Was reported missing after several days. Subject was located deceased after searching some undeveloped property he owned.

Location: San Francisco Box
Subject: Overdue Male

Subject was reported overdue after he did not come back from setting up game cameras. Several days of searching led to him being found deceased near a trail.

Location: Carson National Forest
Subject: Stranded Male

Subject was on a solo backpacking trip. He texted a friend saying he was lost and possibly stuck. Teams located him south of where he thought he was, near a very hard to follow trail.

Location: Taos Junction Bridge
Subject: Overdue Treasure Hunter

Subject was searching for the Forest Fenn treasure. His wife reported him overdue when he did not come back for a meeting. Vehicle was found, along with several of his belongings. Subject was located deceased nine miles downriver by rafters.

Location: La Joya
Subject: Distressed Male

Subject drove off from his residence in Nevada and went east. He was found with his vehicle in La Joya but then took off. Sheriff found his vehicle nearby, with tracks. Subject was located about a mile down river, clinging to a log.

Location: Near Gila Cliff Dwellings
Subject: Despondent Male

Subject was reported missing after several days and his vehicle was found near the cliff dwellings. Teams tracked him into the wilderness. Subject was located deceased in the morning.

Location: Ruidoso Downs
Subject: Missing Male

Subject was out hiking and gathering with a friend who reported him missing. Mission was suspended after two operational periods due to information that subject was no longer in the area.

Location: Near Jicarita Peak
Subject: Lost Hiker

While hiking with her husband, subject went ahead and would return to where he was waiting. When she did not return, a search was initiated. Subject walked out on her own days later.

Location: South of Reserve
Subject: Lost Hunter

Subject walked out on his own before resources arrived.

Date: October 9, 2017
Location: Near north end of Elephant Butte Lake
Subject: Despondent Male

Subject's vehicle was found in the area after he was reported missing. Subject was found deceased the next morning by drone and canine search.

Location: Me-Own Airstrip, Gila National Forest
Subject: Two Lost Hunters

Two hunters lost in remote part of Gila National Forest. Subjects were found by another SAR team before team left Socorro.

Location: Pecos
Subject: Missing Hunter

Three-day search for a hunter who was separated from his party. Incident base was relocated to San Jose on final day. Search was suspended after clues and sightings did not lead anywhere. Subject found deceased several months later.

Subject: Missing Hunter

Hunter was reported overdue. Subject walked out while SAR resources were en route.
