The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology is the chartering agency of SSAR. The NMT student government provides primary funding and recruitment for our team.
Since 1978, the New Mexico Department of Public Safety (NMDPS) and the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) have overseen all search and rescue operations in the state of New Mexico. For general information or media inquiries, contact the NMDPS SAR Resource Office, listed on the webpage linked here.
The New Mexico Search and Rescue Council is a non-profit organization that provides resources, training, networking, and other services for the search and rescue teams in the state. SSAR is a proud member team of the NMSARC. Click here to access resources, Field Certification study guides, calendars, and more from the council.

All search and rescue teams in the state are required to know and follow the Incident Command System (ICS) outlined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to ensure smooth interagency cooperation and collaboration. NMSAR Medical provides medical coordination and monthly online medical training for all search and rescue volunteers. They serve as the liaison between the NMDPS SAR Resource Office, the contracted medical directors, and the volunteers.
